The Brain Change Center has been wanting to bring the NeurOptimal® dynamic neurofeedback brain training system to central Arkansas for a long time, and now it’s here!
How did it happen? Brain Change Center’s founder, John Cheairs MD has been hearing about neurofeedback since he met his wife, Becky Whetstone, Ph.D. in 2010. She is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Arkansas and Texas, and had taken a linear neurofeedback class in while in graduate school at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. Since then several of her colleagues have had great success treating their clients for all kinds of mental and emotional dysfunctions with neurofeedback. In 2013 the two began talking about bringing some form of neurofeedback to Arkansas as it is nowhere near as available as it is in other states. Becky and John traveled to Atlanta to take a 5-day training from the Stens Corporation. They loved the results and how it helps people, but didn’t like the linear form of neurofeedback that is so common. Why? It requires complicated assessments, protocols and a diagnosis. It requires a technician who chooses what is best for you, and there can be terrible side effects. They left Atlanta frustrated and discouraged.
As the years passed, Becky attended numerous conferences and trainings about the latest state-of-the art treatments for depression, anxiety, PTSD, attention issues, learning disabilities and more, and over and over well-respected experts in the mental and behavioral health field stressed that neurofeedback was one of the most state-of-the art, effective interventions we have available today.
Becky came back from her most recent meeting* in 2017 more certain than ever that this tool needed to be readily available in Arkansas. She and John revisited the subject, and soon found that there was an alternative available to the linear form of neurofeedback that was user friendly, didn’t require a diagnosis or complicated protocol, a person’s own brain guided the training, there were no negative side effects; this was the NeurOptimal® dynamic neurofeedback system.
Now Becky and John were excited about neurofeedback again, and felt compelled to bring the technology to Arkansas and make it readily available. With a newfound passion, John ordered the Brain Change Center’s first system, and opened the center in the Park West building in midtown Little Rock. While Becky continues her Marriage and Family therapy practice, she is as passionate about it as he is, and feels happy to know the resource is available to her clients and other people throughout central Arkansas. Research shows how changeable brains are, and now we have a system that can rapidly, easily and painlessly optimize brain functioning, no matter what your presenting issues are.
* Becky attended Meet the Masters in New York City, hosted by the world-renown Meadows Behavioral Health Center (Treatment center for notables Michael Phelps, Kevin Spacey, Harvey Windstein). Five influential behavioral health experts and authors who advise The Meadows on state-of-the-art interventions to treat trauma spoke about the powerful brain-change tool, neurofeedback, which ignited a sense of urgency in Becky to make certain neurofeedback became more readily available in central Arkansas.
What exactly will I experience when I come to the Brain Change Center for brain training?
Imagine sitting in a comfortable chair listening to music for about 33 minutes. Silver clips are on each ear, and two sensors are attached to your scalp that are connected to a laptop computer. The technician turns the brain change program on, and you feel nothing while your brain communicates with the NeurOptimal® software that gently trains your brain to function better, at its most optimal level. Whatever your issue is, from concentration and focus, to anxiety, depression, obsessiveness, addiction, attention issues, autism and many more … you’ll notice that you feel so much better after only a few sessions.
NeurOptimal® has a very successful history of brain change success.
Already used widely in the United States and the world, with over 3 million hours of successful training experience, we know that people can feel better within a few sessions, though up to 20 or even 30 may be necessary for permanent and lasting change. the Brain Change Center recommends to planning on at least six sessions as a good starting point.
